Harry Thalhimer was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 31, 1953. Currently, he is the President of Thalhimer Headwear and previously worked in management for Thalhimers in Richmond and Marshall Field & Co. in Chicago.
His parents, Charles and Rhoda Thalhimer, were lifetime supporters of RPI/VCU. His mother served on the Board of Visitors more than two decades, beginning in the 1960’s, under four Governors and his father co-chaired two capital campaigns for the University. His father was active with the School of Business, Athletics, and the MCV Foundation.
Harry is a graduate of the Collegiate School in Richmond and has a B.A. from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. from The University of Chicago.
Harry and his wife live in Richmond and have two great sons and daughters-in-law and two granddaughters.
Since returning to Richmond in 1979, Harry and his wife have been active community leaders touching many organizations in education, arts, health and social welfare. He has personally been active on the VCU and MCV/VCU Health campuses with the VCU School of Business, VCU Athletics, VCU Arts, the ICA at VCU, and the MCV Foundation. He served 10+ years on the MCV Foundation Board, including three years as Board Chair. He currently servs on the advisory board of the ICA at VCU.
He was a founding shareholder of the Fidelity Federal Savings Bank (BB&T, Truist) and serves as a member of the advisory board.
He has previously served as a board member of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) board, member and board president of the Richmond Symphony, board member of the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, board member of Beth Sholom Home of Central Virginia, lay committee member of the Virginia Bar Association - Third District Committee, board member of Goodwill Industries, Richmond, and board member of the Valentine Museum, Richmond.
