Dale Jones, Ph.D.
Dr. Dale Jones is an experienced higher education leader, public administration scholar, and executive leadership coach. He brings the experience of his 34-year career in higher education to his professional work and service to colleges and universities. He is a member of the Board of Visitors of Virginia Commonwealth University, beginning in 2022. He is an executive leadership coach certified by the Georgetown University Institute for Transformational Leadership in 2024. Additionally, he is president of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) National Capital Area Chapter and a graduate of Lead Virginia, a statewide leadership program, in the Class of 2023.
His administrator and faculty member career spans several public and independent colleges and universities. Most recently, he served as chancellor and chief academic officer of Pennsylvania State University Wilkes-Barre. Before then, he was vice president for strategy, administration, and board affairs at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. At Hampden-Sydney, he was secretary of the board of trustees and collaborated extensively with the president, board chair, and board affairs committee to enhance board operations and effectiveness. Dr. Jones also served on the faculties at the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Virginia Commonwealth University L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs School of Public Affairs, and U.S. Air Force Academy Department of Political Science.
Dr. Jones completed the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management; University of California, Berkeley, Executive Leadership Academy; Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy Certificate in Fundraising Management Program; American Association of State Colleges and Universities Millennium Leadership Initiative Program; and Virginia Commonwealth University Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute Leadership Development Program.
He is an Honor Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a B.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering, where he graduated in the top 2% of his class in leadership performance. He earned his Ph.D. in Public Administration from the Syracuse University Maxwell School. He also received an M.A. from George Washington University and an M.B.A. from Wright State University, where he received the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Gold Award. Dr. Jones completed a career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He held a variety of leadership positions, including duty as a White House Social Aide to President Ronald Reagan.
