A VCU graduate, Coleen Santa Ana is a nationally recognized healthcare executive with more than 20 years of industry experience. Her career began as a 15-year-old healthcare volunteer before becoming a hospital president by the age of 34.

Ms. Santa Ana serves as the CEO and partner for Alere 'Care' Solutions. She is also the founder of Luminary Lens, LLC, a coaching and consulting company.

Before joining Alere, Ms. Santa Ana served as hospital president for the Sentara Healthcare system after progressive promotions through the for-profit organizations HCA and UHS. Her industry experience includes non-profit and for-profit executive leadership and operations; urban and rural markets; mergers and acquisitions; and integrations and turnaround work.

Ms. Santa Ana is recognized in the healthcare industry: Modern Healthcare Magazine named her an “Up and Comer” and she was celebrated by Inside Business: “Women in Business.” She serves on multiple boards, including as chair of the American Hospital Association Equity of Care Committee.

Ms. Santa Ana received a Master of Health Administration degree from VCU in 2005 and a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Health Services Administration and minors in Business and Psychology, from James Madison University in 2001. 

She is active with the VCU Department of Health Administration by working with students and faculty.
